About Broadwood

Why Broadwood?

Broadwood Central School was established in 2021 as a pre-kindergarten and elementary school for children ages 3-10, by a group of educators, teachers, and activists who dream of a more just and progressive Pakistan.

Situated in Faisalabad, the second largest city in the province of Punjab after Lahore, Broadwood Central School follows a holistic approach to education, focusing on music, the performing arts, and contemporary ideas of global citizenship to instill critical thinking and creativity in Pakistan’s future generations.

Inclusivity, equity, social justice, and democracy are core values embedded in the school’s mission. Not only is Broadwood committed to diversity in every classroom so that Ahmadi, Shia, Christian, and Sunni students can study and play together, but gender balance and diversity are also integral to the school’s hiring practices and the composition of its staff.

There is no discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, or ability. About 30-40% of Broadwood students receive need-based scholarships or some form of financial aid. Children with autism or other special needs are provided speech and behavioral therapy. The school has therapists on staff and frequently calls in a volunteer consultant with a doctorate in special education.

Broadwood’s curriculum is cognizant of the complexities and challenges of the present world. It focuses on mathematics, science, music, language, English, computer science, and a rich spectrum of extracurricular activities including debate competitions, art and cultural activities, and sports.
